Sunnyside Gardens Park Tennis Courts

The tennis courts in Sunnyside Park have provided the community with healthy fun since their inception as part of a private park in 1926. In continuous operation since then, they are among the oldest tennis courts in Queens.  There are currently about 50 members who play tennis at all levels, from beginner to advanced. Three Har-Tru (clay) courts are maintained and managed by the tennis club members through volunteer hours. The season begins in early May and ends in late November. The tennis club has a separate fee from regular park membership due to the high cost of maintaining the courts. The hours are every day from 10 am to sunset. The courts are usually open for members only, but non-members can take lessons or play for an hourly rate ($30/hr and court). Because the courts are Har-tru, clay court tennis sneakers must be worn with flat bottom, no grooves or cleats that would dig up the surface (see link “tennis shoe requirement” below)
